How an E-Mail from AOC Made Me Question the COVID-19 Death Count — Mickey Z.

April 22, 2021
On April 6, 2021, I got an email from the offices of AOC (she’s my congressperson) informing me that “those who lost loved ones to COVID-19 will be able to apply for retroactive reimbursements for burial costs.” Let me begin this contemplation by clarifying: I’m very glad this program exists. However, something further down in the email also caught my eye:
To apply for funeral reimbursement, you must provide “relevant documentation,” e.g. “a copy of the death certificate.” This certificate, we’re told, “must indicate the death ‘may have been caused by’ or ‘was likely a result of' COVID-19 or COVID-19-like symptoms. Similar phrases that indicate a high likelihood of COVID-19 are also considered sufficient.”
I immediately replied to ask: If “phrases that indicate a high likelihood of COVID-19 are considered sufficient,” what do you think this says about the accuracy of the official death count? (I’ll let you know if I get a reply.)
Think about it: For 13 months and counting, we’ve been conditioned to fear a virus based on the numbers: cases and deaths. We already know that the testing process was and is monumentally flawed. Undercounts, over-counts, false positives by the boatload — literally no one knows how many individuals have tested positive for Covid. That number will never be known and this should count as criminal negligence.
We also know that only 6 percent of those who died with Covid did not have any underlying conditions. The other 94 percent had an average of 2.6 co-morbidities. How many deaths listed as Covid were actually the result of other causes? Again, no one knows and no one will ever know. Again, this should count as criminal negligence. So yeah, things were already sad, disturbing, and worthy of closer scrutiny.
To add to the mix, we are now being blatantly told that in order to be considered as a Covid death, you only need to show something like “may have been caused by” or “was likely a result of.” Even “COVID-19-like symptoms” are proof enough of Covid. Do you realize how many dozens of symptoms have been already associated with Covid in the past year? Do you also realize how similar the symptoms are between Covid and other respiratory illnesses? Is there anyone reading this who hasn’t had a symptom that could technically fall under this massive umbrella? What isn’t a “COVID-19-like symptom”?
Take a look at this graphic (below) from the World Health Organization. The flu seems to have magically disappeared. There were about 38,000,000 reported cases during the 2019-2020 flu season. In 2020-21, the number was 1,822. Sure, a small dip could be chalked up to Covid mitigation tactics. But virtually every single case? Is it not rational to wonder how many flu cases and deaths have been incorrectly added to the Covid lists? (For context, there were 34,200 flu-related deaths in the U.S. in 2019-20 but the yearly flu-death average ranges from 12,000 to 61,000 deaths.)
The official COVID-19 death count feels as credible as the 2003 canard that Saddam Hussein was in possession of weapons of mass destruction (WMD). On the surface, both claims had a glint of credibility. All it would take to make either of them feel “true” would be to follow a credo often attributed to Nazi Minister of Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels: “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.”
Because we live in a culture drowning in black-and-white thinking, please allow me to clarify: I’m not downplaying the suffering, death, and grief caused by Covid. I’ve directly interacted with folks who have suffered traumatic losses. If you believe that my intention with this article is disrespectful, I’m not sure there’s any reasonable way for me to communicate with you.
If you think accurate accounting doesn’t matter, consider that these are the numbers used to justify a massive, global lockdown that has permanently impacted peoples’ lives in ways that are far more profound than any virus. The numbers I am trying to understand are not inconsequential. They are the very foundation for everything that’s happened in the past year and everything that will happen for many years to come.
You may think the exact numbers don’t matter. You may think it’s heinous for anyone to even question the official “count.” If that’s what you’re feeling right now, I invite you to explain your perspective to some of the humans impacted by the lockdowns, e.g.
- 72 million children pushed into illiteracy
- The famine-stricken residents of Yemen, South Sudan, Burkina Faso, and northeastern Nigeria
- 9.3 million wasted and 2.6 million stunted children
- 15 million girls and women now dealing with unintended pregnancies
- 13 million girls who might be forced into child marriages
- 2 million girls enduring genital mutilation without campaigns in place to protect them
- All the Japanese women caught up in an 83 percent increase in suicide
- 10,000 additional children dying each month from hunger

For that matter, you can share your perspective with the entire ecosystem — now being further polluted by the 376 million disposable face masks (containing micro-plastics with a lifespan of 450 years) entering landfills every single month.
Tell it to the (former) store owners right here in my neighborhood. I walk through Astoria on a daily basis and marvel at the ongoing shuttering of rows and rows of mom-and-pop establishments. These folks have lost everything — not because of a virus but as a result of the lockdowns. Those destructive and lethal lockdowns were and remain widely accepted based on the numbers we were given. A precise accounting of cases and deaths matters immensely — especially since COVID-19 appears to have at least a 99 percent recovery rate.
If we can be convinced (using numbers) that death is knocking on everyone’s door, we will agree to anything. But what if those numbers “may have been caused by” COVID-19 or merely involved “COVID-19-like symptoms”? Somewhere, right now, a 13-year-old girl is enduring genital mutilation before being forced to marry an adult man because “phrases that indicate a high likelihood of COVID-19 are considered sufficient” to impose a global quarantine? Reminder: Ten thousand additional children are dying each month from hunger because we Americans wanted to believe “we’re all in this together.”
The lies about Iraq and WMD led to decades of murderous military intervention. We’ll never have a precise count of the Iraqis (mostly children) who died thanks to falsehoods told dating all the way back to 1990. Tell someone today that Hussein was making nukes and they’ll laugh in your face. Tell that same person that you think the Covid death count may be skewed high and they’ll spit in your face.
And now, we’re having an experimental vaccine marketed to us like it’s a must-have new iPhone. Reports of adverse vaccine effects are higher in the last three months than the entire previous decade combined. But we’re told that we must never assume a connection between an under-tested vaccine and a sudden rash of possibly related deaths. That link can’t be proven, the “experts” state smugly. To that, I ask: What happened to standards like “may have been caused by” and “was likely a result of”? Are they only used for counting Covid deaths?
Whether the number of Americans who directly died from Covid is 50,000 or 200,000 or 1,000,000, it would be terrible and tragic. But, I ask, what final (accurate) tally could ever justify the lockdowns and the devastation they’re causing all across the globe? We are being lied to every single day by governments and corporations on a variety of issues. It's not "conspiracy theory" to ask questions when America’s 614 billionaires grew their net worth by a collective $931 billion since the pandemic started. Why have we become so gullible now of all times? Suggestion: Stop trusting those in power. They never have your best interest at heart. It is a sublime form of liberation to accept this reality.

Coda: As I hit “publish” on this article, it’s April 22 — 16 days since I asked AOC for clarification. No response yet.
